Elin's Journey Back to Sanity

old and she didn't necessarily want to replicate the experience for her own
family. Tiger followed through in the beginning, even checking himself into the
famous sexual rehab center Pine Grove in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. I am sure
that he pledged to clean up his act and make his family a priority. Two weeks
after the Thanksgiving incident, Tiger told the media that we was taking an
'indefinite leave' from golf. His hiatus lasted only four months when he made
the announcement that he would be playing at the Masters in April. Elin took
the kids to Sweden for two weeks in April. No coincidence.
Set your boundaries. Then be willing to walk the talk. Look...I'm certainly not
connected to the inner workings of the Woods' household. But it doesn't take a
rocket scientist to figure out hitting the greens that soon after resolving to take
an 'indefinite break' would tick off a spouse. Although Elin held off on filing to
give Tiger a chance, he quickly reverted back his previous lifestyle. It was clear
to Elin that the marriage was not able to survive without love and trust. She set
her boundaries and then acted when her husband didn't hold up his end of the
bargain. Sometimes taking this first step is the most difficult.
Staying busy during a stressful period can help you cope. Elin held herself
together for her children. She never let them see her cry. During the day she
attended to their schedules and needs and at night she continued her studies
towards a bachelor's degree in psychology. When she grieved, she did so
alone. Running, biking and writing also helped her to keep her sense of
balance and sanity during the stressful months leading up to the divorce.
Seek help. Elin received support from friends and family. She also sought out
professional advice from a therapist. Whether it is a site like PAH, or a trusted
counselor, reach out to speed up your healing.
It was a tough chapter in her life. Yes, she gets a reported $100 million+ in the
divorce settlement. This means that she doesn't have the financial concerns
that many other women have when they are considering the end of a
relationship or marriage. She also has the paparazzi camped on her doorstep
constantly and has every minute of her life reported to the news media. At
least you still have your anonymity and privacy as you deal with this difficult
time.
It doesn't have to define who she is. Elin reclaimed her maiden name of
Nordegren in the divorce. Her children are young and not enrolled in school
yet so there is no need for matching surnames to avoid confusion and such.
In the end, she is confident that she has made the right choice. PAH echos
this. Reported on 08/24/10, the day following the official announcement that
the Woods' divorce is final , mistress Rachel Uchitel has told a 'very close
friend' that she wants Tiger back and would give up everything to get him. 'I
feel horrible for him. He loved her. But he was in love with me. I hope he
remembers that was real, and reaches out to me.' Rachel added, 'I'd give up
everything to be with him again.'
Does that include the $10 million that Tiger paid her off with so she wouldn't
sell his secrets to the media? When you roll in the mud with Pigs, you are
going to get dirty.
Thank you Elin for being such a wonderful role model to so many women in
pain. Best of luck to you.
I am sure you have heard by now that Elin and Tiger's divorce is final. This certainly was a fast
track divorce. After all the infamous golf club incident was just last Thanksgiving...just nine
months ago. People magazine has an interview with Elin published this week. Although I am
not a dedicated reader of the publication, I did find myself reaching for the issue at the
checkout stand. Elin is only 30 yet she is so wise. Here are some of the take away lessons any
wife or girlfriend dealing with emotional or physical infidelity will find meaningful:
It is easy to be blindsided. Shock. Disbelief. Elin is a young mother busy with two young
children. Like any mother, her days are filled from morning to night. Tiger had his training
and tour schedules and his 'people' were managing his schedule. She had no idea - zero - that
anything was amiss. Once she had an inkling, she starting searching for information on his cell
phone. No one has mentioned what may have been stored in the home PC browser history.
Everyone deserves a chance. Although Elin must have been mortified to have her personal
pain so prominent in the public eye, she was willing to give Tiger a chance. They had two
young impressionable children to consider. Elin's parents divorced when she was seven years

Don't:
Beat yourself up for not finding out earlier. It is more important to take the correct actions now that you know the truth.
Just go with the flow. You may be inadvertently be giving him the message that you condone his bad habits and actions. If you haven't set boundaries yet, do so now.
Just throw in the towel. Everyone and every situation should be looked at rationally and thoughtfully to see if there is a realistic chance of reconciliation. Porn is out there. 95% of men admit they have looked at porn sites from time to time. This includes men of strict religious faith. Consider what you are running towards before you split.
Do:
Stay busy with your own life. It is easy to think of his problems with porn and almost become obsessed with finding out if he is staying clean or not. Refocus on you and your healing. What did you enjoying doing before the freight train moment hit? What relaxes you? Energizes you? Make sure you reincorporate that into your life on a weekly basis.
Get a financial plan together. Money won't make you happy but it certainly gives you options. Even if it means squirreling away $20 a week or heading back to school to get the degree that will allow you to obtain a job and eventually financial independence. Get a plan.
